Size selection and RFQ guide

Specify a 10mm Micro Roller Screw

Define the 10 mm dimension. Prepare a drawing-based RFQ.

Start with the drawing

What does “10 mm” identify?

Define the nominal diameter and fit envelope before comparing catalog dimensions.

Screw reference diameter

Name the supplier’s nominal diameter convention and drawing tolerance.

Journal and thread diameters

Bearing seats and thread-root diameter differ from the nominal value.

Nut and installation envelope

Include nut outside diameter, mounting length, and travel clearance.

Traceable catalog example

A published 10.5 × 2.0 mm inverted model

The Rollvis RVI table is useful for understanding how a supplier separates size and capacity fields. On printed page 48 it lists a 10.5 × 2.0 mm model and defines d0 as nominal diameter, d1 as screw external diameter, and d2 as thread-root diameter. This is a named manufacturer example, not a 10.00 mm product claim or a rating for another design.

Published fieldRVI 10.5 × 2.0 mm exampleHow to use it
Model and leadRVI 10.5 × 2.0 mmUse the supplier drawing to confirm the definition, tolerances, and fit.
Nominal diameter (d0)10.50 mmUse the supplier drawing to confirm the definition, tolerances, and fit.
Screw external diameter (d1)10.70 mmUse the supplier drawing to confirm the definition, tolerances, and fit.
Screw thread-root diameter (d2)10.16 mmUse the supplier drawing to confirm the definition, tolerances, and fit.

Dynamic axial capacity (Ca)13.4 kNManufacturer data for this model only; do not transfer it to a different screw.
Static axial capacity (C0a)20.8 kNManufacturer data for this model only; do not transfer it to a different screw.

Source scope: the linked Rollvis table identifies the RVI series and model above. Its Ca and C0a entries are dynamic and static axial capacity values for that model, not a continuous-duty approval for a new design. The site’s Ultra-Micro RV family page gives a separate 1.5–12 mm family range; request the exact configuration drawing and rating for a 10 mm quotation.

Architecture choice

Compare the package before selecting a screw

Diameter alone does not choose between standard and inverted planetary layouts. Compare how each arrangement fits the actuator, then ask the supplier to confirm the exact model and ratings.

OptionWhen to review itConfirm before release
Standard planetary roller screwThe standard screw-and-nut arrangement fits the actuator envelope and the required shaft, bearings, and support layout.Which member rotates or translates, the selected series, lead, mounting interfaces, and the supplier drawing for the exact size.
Inverted planetary roller screwA smooth output shaft, sealed package, or use of the screw or nut as part of a push-tube assembly is relevant to the layout. The product family and actual model. Inverted construction alone does not establish a package-length reduction or a transferable load rating.
Custom micro roller screwThe requested 10 mm envelope or end geometry does not match a published catalog drawing.Whether the supplier can make the requested dimensions, what validation is required, and which ratings and inspection records will be released.

Rollvis describes its RVI inverted family as compact and customizable, including configurations where the screw or nut can act as a push tube. That manufacturer description explains an architecture option; it does not establish a fixed length reduction for your actuator.

Buyer checklist

Prepare a drawing-based CAD or RFQ request

These details let an engineer assess whether a 10 mm class screw fits the application and identify the evidence still needed. They are request inputs, not performance promises for a product.

  1. 1.Define the 10 mm dimension

Mark the requested reference diameter on the drawing. Distinguish nominal screw diameter from the shaft journal, thread-root diameter, nut outside diameter, and the available installation envelope.

  2. 2.Choose the motion architecture

State whether a standard planetary or inverted arrangement is acceptable. Identify which member rotates, which member translates, and how the screw or nut connects to the actuator.

  3. 3.Describe load and motion

Give continuous and peak axial loads with duration, stroke, speed, acceleration, duty cycle, and required service life. Separate radial and moment loads and show which guides carry them.

  4. 4.Set precision and interface needs

Specify lead, repeatability or backlash target, preload preference, bearing seats, anti-rotation features, end machining, and the drawing datum scheme.

  5. 5.List operating and quality constraints

Include lubricant, temperature, cleanliness or sterilization limits, material requirements, inspection records, prototype quantity, and any customer flowdowns.

A screenshot or conceptual sketch can help start the discussion, but a released CAD model, fit decision, and product rating must come from the supplier’s project drawing and agreed validation plan.

Supplier evidence

Ask what will be verified on the selected model

A catalog table can help compare a named model, but a custom RFQ should agree on its own drawing, material and heat-treatment route, dimensional inspection, lead or backlash checks, and acceptance records. See the company’s stated manufacturing and quality process and company identity; request project-specific evidence with the quote.

No customer case study, test result, or third-party certification is claimed on this page. Request records that match the purchase requirements for your program.

10mm micro roller screw questions

Is a 10 mm micro roller screw a standard catalog size?

The site product map lists the Ultra-Micro RV family in a 1.5–12 mm range, which includes 10 mm at family level. That range is not a per-size drawing or SKU confirmation. Ask the intended supplier to confirm the exact model, lead, drawing, and current availability. The public Rollvis RVI example linked here is 10.5 × 2.0 mm.

Can I use a 10.5 mm model in a 10 mm envelope?

Not from the nominal size alone. Compare the supplier drawing with the required reference diameter, journal and root diameters, nut outside diameter, bearing seats, fit tolerances, and installation clearance.

Can I use the listed 13.4 kN and 20.8 kN values for my design?

No. Those are the published Ca and C0a values for the named Rollvis RVI 10.5 × 2.0 mm model. They are not ratings for a different 10 mm concept or another supplier design.

What should “10 mm” identify on an RFQ?

Reference the dimension on a drawing and name the datum or catalog convention. A nominal screw diameter, shaft journal, thread-root diameter, and nut outside diameter are different measurements.

What should I send to request CAD or a quote?

Send a 2D drawing or 3D envelope, the requested diameter definition, architecture preference, lead, stroke, load and speed profile, duty and life target, precision requirement, guides, lubricant, environment, material, inspection scope, and prototype quantity.
